Every child is unique and has special needs that a teacher will consider when planning for best possible instruction. Some students require additional consideration based upon their needs. The Schoolwide Enrichment Program and the Pupil Services Team offer a variety of additional services.
Mrs. Webb, our enrichment teacher, works with children in all grade levels who have been identified as needing a more challenging learning environment or opportunities to develop interests. Both parents and teachers can submit a student's name for consideration in this program. Mrs. Webb divides her time between Jarrettsville and North Bend Elementary.
A professional support staff is available to identify those students who may have special needs that require additional instructional support. This staff includes the resource teachers, the speech/language pathologists, the reading specialist, the school nurse, the physical educators, and the guidance counselor. In some cases, when a parent or teacher makes a referral for evaluation, a educationally handicapping condition is identified through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Team (ARD). At this point an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) can be prepared for the student.
Harford County supports a Parent/Educator Information and Training Center to help parents get involved with their child's education. The Center is run on community level and is approved by the Harford County Board of Education. Services include information on educational and community services, basic training for parents and educators in cooperative planning of a child's special education, and help for parents involved in the ARD and/or IEP process.
