JES JUMP START

A summer program to help your child get a JUMP START before school begins
Dear Parents,
I would like to thank you for your willingness to participate in the JES Jump Start Program. We hope that this program will help your child to be ready for school in the fall. In order for you to be more successful with the program, I would like to suggest a few ideas:
  1. Be positive about the program. Emphasize how a little practice during the weeks in the summer will make them more successful in school.
  2. Set up a designated place for your child to do their work. This will help them to extend their ability to sit in one spot for a period of time.
  3. Have a place where all their work is stored. Obviously, this will prevent those last minute rushes to find the papers. This routine will be helpful when school begins.
  4. Make the times for doing the work scheduled and short. Do not attempt to make up missed work by scheduling a longer work session. We want to develop good work habits.
  5. Spend some time talking to your child about their work and the books they are reading. It would be a great time to introduce your child to the classics. Read a book together as a family, then watch the video. Discuss the characters and see what the video has left out. Encourage your child to enjoy the classics and help them to develop a taste for real literature. Fun books are OK, but like 'junk food' they can't take the place of a dinner at an elegant restaurant.

If you have problems please (feel free) to contact one of the JES Jump Start moms.
We wish you great success with the JES Jump Start Program
