Jarrettsville Elementary School

"Where the best...Is possible!"

Jarrettsville Elementary School is located in northwestern Harford County, birthplace of Cal Ripken, just thirty miles northeast of the city of Baltimore, home of the Baltimore Orioles. The Jarrettsville Academy was established in 1902 as a high school and elementary school. In 1950, with the opening of North Harford High School, Jarrettsville became only an elementary school. It is located in the gently rolling hills of Harford County, just a few miles south of the historic Mason Dixon Line.

Mascot"JUMPER" & "CLIMBER"

Our school mascot is JUMPER the Kangaroo. JUMPER is an acronym for "Jarrettsville Urges More Pupils to Enjoy Reading" and was originally established as our reading incentive mascot. When Dr. Deborah Heiberger became principal in 1986, we established JUMPER as the school-wide mascot. In 1990, when Mr. Mack became principal, we added a math incentive program and created the mascot, CLIMBER the Koala. CLIMBER is an acronym for "Children LearningInteresting Math Brings Exciting Results". As you can see we have an Australian theme in our school. Because of this Australian connection we have hosted guests from the Australian Embassy and two of our teachers have visited the continent "down under."

In the main lobby of the school, four white bricks are located around the showcase. These white bricks were a gift from the graduating classes.
