Consider these six safety guidelines for Internet use:

  1. Preserve Confidentiality

    Make it a family rule never to give out information over the Internet without adult permission. That includes your address, your name, your school, and your phone number.

  2. E-mail

    Only e-mail to people you know.

  3. Make using the Internet a family activity.

    Consider putting the computer in a public room, such as a family room.

  4. Beware of false claims.

    While the Internet can be a valuable reference tool, not everything on the Internet is true. Seek and support only reputable organizations.

  5. Never arrange a meeting with another user.
  6. Know the services and websites your child uses.

And most of all, use common sense.
