Eden Mill Nature Center
|
A retired mill, turned into a nature center, is awaiting your family. Plenty of trails can be found near the mill with picnic tables and a friendly stream. The mill once generated it's own electricity and those generators are still intact. |

A Fifth Grader's Journal of Eden Mill
October, 1997
|
My field trip to Eden Mill was a blast. Last week on Wednesday and Friday the whole fifth grade went there. The six different activities we went to were Hidden Critters, Stream Studies, Project Wild, A Nature Hike, Beavercology, and Team Playing Skills. At Hidden Critters we made critters and tried to camouflage them. We learned about camouflage and why the animals do it. When we went to Stream Studies my group walked in the stream and caught fish and crayfish. Then, we talked about different things we caught and then we let them go. That activity was really fun. I enjoyed it. Then, we went to Project Wild. We played a game that was fun. The purpose was for the predator which was the fox to try and catch its' prey which were the rabbits. Another activity we went to was a nature hike. We took a long hike and went on many different trails. My group was the only group who saw a beaver. We heard it slap its tail on the water to warn us. The next activity we went to was Beavercology. We learned all about their homes and habitat. Then, we had to pick one or two people to be in our group. Our groups then gathered sticks to try and make a lodge. That was fun. The last activity we went to was Teamwork Play Skills. We had to work together to try and accomplish different tasks. One task was to move a piece of wood around that had holes in it to try to get the balls in them. My group turned out to be a pretty good team. Another task was as follows: There were two longs boards and you had to put one of your feet on both boards and pull up on the strings. When we did that, we ended up walking. These are all the things we did at Eden Mill on our field trip. I would recommend it to any person who loves being outside. I had a great time and hope to go again. Jocelyn B., was a student in Mrs. Blom's 5th grade class This program is sponsored by the Harford Glen staff. |
